EXPLORE THE POWER GENERATION LANDSCAPE
OF THE AIRE VALLEY
MSA LIVE
OUR OBJECTIVE
This website is part of MSA Live, a Manchester School of Architecture project. Our collaborators are Dr Luca Csepely Knorr, Dr Richard Brook and the National Coal Mining Museum for England (NCMME). In non-Covid times we would have hosted a physical exhibition at NCMME. Instead, we have decided to create this website, including a virtual exhibition, as a resource for school children to learn about coal and power infrastructure in the Aire Valley. These post-war structures are steadily disappearing as we gradually switch to a fossil-fuel free energy system but their historical importance should not be understated. By educating children we are ensuring that these iconic buildings live on through in the next generation, even if their physical presence has faded. We hosted a virtual school trip for a year 1 class with great success and hope this website can be used to educate many others.
